:o)

"All them lions they can eat my body, but they can't (beat) swallow my soul, no no no, no"

This Lost and Found ditty is so TOTALLY stuck in my head. It's fun that I know the chords and can rock out for myself.

Hey I'm feeling good...so I thought I'd post that. I sometimes worry that I only post when I'm frustrated. I suppose one could fall into the same trap with praying...only doing so when frustrated...rather than praising and thanking for the good things.

Off I go for some exciting lawn mowing!

Friday Five: Fame

1. Tell us about a time you met someone famous.
Oh gee that kinda used to be in my line of work....I remember meeting Reba McNtyre (how do you spell her name?) It was my first week on the job...and I was waiting at a desk outside of a studio for a phone person and this red haired lady asked me where the bathroom was....but I had no idea....her manager was increasingly frustrated with me when I had no answers to any of their questions :) Personally, I thought it was funny.

Or, ha...I remember working a party for a magazine...and I was entrusted with distributing (at my discretion) these special pins to get into a VIP area....and I had Joey McNtyre (same name I can't spell) of New Kids on the Block fame...begging me for a pin to get in. That too....just strange and funny.

2. Tell us about a celebrity you'd like to meet.
Julie Andrews....really...the only one I'd be interested in meeting. Entertainment wise.

But I could think of authors.....

3. Tell us about someone great who's *not* famous that you think everyone oughta have a chance to meet.
Oh, man...there's a handful of pastors.........

4. Do you have any autographs of famous people?
Yeah, from when I was in HS, I was a stage door jane. I feel like unloading them on ebay now....cuz I just am not interested! :)

5. If you were to become famous, what would you want to become famous for?
Well that's tough. I don't believe that I *would* want to become famous. I've seen fame in others, it's empty and takes away your personal life. Noted? I could handle that. Writing, music...?

Bonus: Whose 15 minutes of fame was up long, long ago?
OH good golly.....network TV is just loaded with these losers!

RuthRE Dreams Again.

I had a dream last night....or more likely early this morning.
In it...I was at a meal....like Thanksgiving...maybe it was. At that meal was my family...parents, siblings...and friends who I consider family....and possible some synod people! It was very cozy and nice.

Anyway...we were all milling about in the dining room getting ready to sit (no idea who's house it was)....and as people were about to sit...maybe consider grace or a toast...retired pastor's wife piped up and said "hey by the way everyone RUTHRE wanted to announce that she's going to become a pastor and is going to seminary!"

To which everyone perked up...surprised (but positively so). I felt a wave of relief..and happiness....like it was right....even though I wasn't planning on "outing" myself right then and there. Well this dream felt incredibly real. I spent the day thinking about it.

Blue Like....the circles under my eyes.. Yawn...

Greetings from RuthRE as well as Ben and Jerry ("Half-Baked: cookie dough and brownie....can't go wrong)

I crossed a few state lines this weekend to attend a friend's wedding. She and I were going to hang out for coffee or whatnot the day before. That didn't work out, heck...it was the day before her wedding! I was suprised she was even going to TRY to meet up. Basically I was planning on an evening at the hotel to myself to eat in the hotel pub (nice and relaxing) and read....and go back to the room and read. So I brought my sunday school curriculum, the revgals devotional and Blue Like Jazz.

I seriously breeze through Don Miller's stuff. I don't know what it is but I want to hear everything that comes out of his mouth (or read from his keyboard). Not that he's a be-all and end-all of theologians....but he states common concepts and topics in terms that are relative to anyone. So often I think that theologians and clergy in their preaching get so used to certain terms and phrases... concepts and words that they've worked out on their own already....that they lose some of their audience...because the audience does not have this already aquired religious vocabulary and experience vocabulary. People have great knowledge OF terms but I think not so much deep experience with them. This is why I think Don does so well getting his points across. He writes in a kind of stream of consciousness manner that is just like pouring coffee into a mug....it belongs there and it pours easy...sips well and is appreciated greatly for being.

He talks a lot about conditional love versus unconditional. All of that love talk was really sticking with me this weekend. It's just all been further inspiration in my life with God. There's nothing like a solo trip and a long drive to mull over things.

Bah, well I'm tired. I had so little sleep because I rushed back home early this morning. If any of that was coherent.....we're lucky...that's the extent of my brain function for tonight.

God grant you restful sleep tonight! (I'll be out like a light, sleeping like a baby...etc..)

idle musings

I was just musing....

Down at Cruzando, Don Miller was a speaker one evening. One story he told has stuck with me....referencing a friend's child who one night (while he was visiting) desperately wanted chicken nuggets rather than the mac and cheese that was served for dinner. He went on to describe his friend in his fatherly role of saying basically 'i'm sorry that you don't want mac n cheese but that is what's for dinner'....

Not to repeat the whole story....but the point of it was that God is like a good father...even though we may not get what we want he may very well know better. I recall it less eloquently, sorry...

Anyway....
I was having a discussion with an agnostic friend last night (who really seems to be seeking lately, more on that another time). We discussed many things...some of which ended up in today's reading in the lectionary..go fig. Anyhoo, we were discussing online today a future prelude that I may be performing soon instrumentally....and I was doubting my readiness to perform it too soon.

My friend typed "God will like it." Normally I would read this in a mocking tone...but I felt as though it was actually serious, sorta. She actually capitalized God. Anyway that's not my point. My response to her was "God will. Even if I crap it up."

That got me to thinking, circling it back to Miller's father analogy, that God is like a sports mom/dad. God is not the one on the sideline reaming out their children if they don't perform well. God is not bitching if we don't make the all-star team. God is the earthy/crunchy/hippie parent welcoming their children with a water bottle and saying "good job. you really tried. i'm proud of you and love you., let's go get ice cream".

Let's hear it for extra long weekends!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
