Musings from Luth Flava Flave

Well I made a list of blog topics, I think I shall tackle a few at once.
I feel like I've gone from 0 to 60 in terms of my church life recently. After a while (basically college and the few years after) of relatively passive church activity I find myself as of today:
In the choir, the altar guild, beginning as a youth leader, webmaster(via Evangalism comittee), and a council member (which of course puts one in many comittees). I feel intimidated by so much, and being entrusted with a council post at the ripe old age of 26.

I'm at church about 3 times a week...which I enjoy. I look forward to going. One of the things that I most look forward to is seeing our Pastor. I adore him. One would think I had a bad relationship with my own father(far from it!), with the way I revere Pastor like a second father. However, he will be retiring at the end of next month. I wish I'd found my way to this church earlier after moving into this area. Anyway, he'll still be in the area (along with his family which I love just as much). I just won't get my fix of my buddy quite as often. He knows so much, I've found myself addicted to coming to our wednesday services as well, just to get the more direct and personal sermons chock full of history and specifics. If anyone would ever inspire me to enter the ministry, it is he.

I was raised and remained until my 20's in the Missouri Synod. It never occurred to me until later on in that time that they didn't ordain women....or that this was something that didn't settle well with me. It's also a reason that I'd never given a single thought to whether I would consider the ministry at all. It has to raise the question, would I have. I'm not saying that I'm necessarily finding myself being called....but I'm left to constantly ask questions of myself in that direction.

So we'll be calling a new pastor presently. We meet with a rep of the Bishop soon to start the process. There may be someone right under our nose that is perfect to step up, but more on that later.

(Random side note....our closing hymn today in the 'blue book' (With One Voice) amused me. I was proclaiming that it was a production number from the smash hit "Communion: The Musical" it ends with the lyric "loaves abound!". I found myself wanting to thrust my fists in the air to accentuate the exclamation.....in true musical theatre style. hee)
