Bookes Meme

Well Trish tagged me so...

Books!
One book that changed your life: I'm supposed to say the Bible right? Well sure....but let's talk smaller...
The Corduroy where he gets locked in the laundromat and in the end gets a pocket sewn on his overalls. It was the first book I read!

One book that you’ve read more than once: Um,...I don't know that I've ever been able to completely finish any book a second time....outside of short short children's books..
The Giving Tree...I know I read that a couple times....The Pain and The Great One...

One book you’d want on a desert island: Aside from the Bible....Umm..maybe a Harry Potter, or some Bill Bryson...I dunno.

One book that made you laugh: One? Bill Bryson's books have definately made me laugh out loud....A Walk in the Woods

One book that made you cry: From school daze Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry, Number the Stars

One book that you wish had been written: "How Not to be a Jerk, Love each other, and Just Generall Be Nice: A World Best Seller"

One book that you wish had never been written: Left Behind :)

One book you’re currently reading: Through Painted Deserts by Don Miller

One book you’ve been meaning to read: Oh golly, hmm I've got a book on the ancient church as family (may be the title)....but I have stacks of others that seem more exciting....and YET I really want to read this one. Blue Like Jazz is now in the wings....

Now tag five people: Err... LutherPunk, LutheranZepher, Proclaiming Softly (what do you use now?), Songbird, Willsmama.....if you already did I was too lazy to check :)

Create in me a CLEAN heart oh, God

There are two things that make me all philosophical and put me into whimsical yet deep thought.....those are flying in airplanes and going to the laundromat.

One skill that I am severely lacking in, is keeping up with my laundry. Don't get me wrong, I don't go out any given day in dirty clothes. I used to wear less than fresh jeans to high school on occasion and my mom was doing the wash then! But I just barely do enough laundry to get by....that is particularly during busy times.

Well lately has certainly been busy times between church and work. I've been so busy that the state of my condo has been mentally masqued until recently when I took a look and said "crap! this place is a mess!" The largest offender being my bedroom....since no one HAS to see it. Having helped two friends in the past couple months move...I've been wanting to clear out....reduce...donate...not just clothes. So, I entered my room intending to do a major overhaul...thinking I could do it in a day..yah right. Well, I've weeded out two large garbage bags of clothes (mostly tshirts...where do they come from??)...and will likely weed out more. That left me with just WAY too much laundry to be done one-load-at-a-time in the laundry room at the other side of my building...so..off to the laundromat and its MEGA machines.

It's just a wonderful purge of guilt to bring all of these dirty clothes that weigh heavy on the mind (whether i've realized it or not)to be cleaned....be rid of. I mean there's a sermon in there somewhere right? The guilt of sin and misdeeds that follow us around...that we keep tucked in the corner of our bedrooms...close at hand and making us cringe. God is the great laundromat? Bring all of your sins and be cleansed!

It's such a great opportunity to bring a book somewhere and dig in. Which I did. I brought "Through Painted Deserts" one of Don Miller's. I actually got it because the Cruzando store sold out of Blue Like Jazz.....but I'm glad for it. My favorite sorts of writing lately are travel essays and theology (of some sort or another). This is both...although the theology is light...which is so fine....light but deep mannn.

What is so calming and hypnotic about watching a dryer spin?

How fun is the tai chi dance of folding a million clothes?

How great is the workout I got lugging these clothes to the car, to the laundromat, back to the car then back to the condo? In mega humid over 80 weather?

Go me....now I have to put it all way I suppose. Hmm I think I could do another bag for good will first.
