How Clear Is Our Vocation, ......

So, my dear friend VC, who's been serving us for a while now is finally ordained as of today! Thanks be! Off he goes soon to his first call. Man, I love watching ordinations...well being present ya know...not just watching....it's a whole lotta Spirit.

So, um...post service I made the rounds to friendly faces. When I was nearly about to leave I caught up with 'synod pastor guy' to talk a little call comittee biznez, a little bad joke biznez.....then a new topic.... When we'd first met he had thought I was a seminarian. Today, he asked just where I came from, what was my background. Had I studied theology or something? Cuz he thought he saw something in me, some glimmer and wondered if I didn't have some sense of a call. .....well golly....and I was on my way out the door...... So, did I go ahead and have that conversation? No. I didn't. I'm thinking I'll follow up to him with the full disclosure in email. My butt is going to be on the candidacy track before the month is out. No more running. I'm caught red handed!

I think now to the old testament text for today....and wonder if my face glows a bit lately from the conversations me and God have been having.....cuz everyone...and I mean everyone is catching on to the 'RuthRE is leaning towards seminary' thing.....where'd my poker face go?

Thoughts...

Some thoughts on the texts for tomorrow.
There's a whole lot of shiney going on in them. Jesus glows. Moses' face shines. I was telling a friend that he should refer to Moses in his sermon as "Mr. Shiney Face".....then I got to thinking....Moses has no poker face does he?

"Where ya been Moses?"
"Oh, nowhere."
"Have you been talking to God again, Moses?
"Nooooo...what makes you say that?"
"Oh I dunno, it's just that YOUR FACE IS SHINEY!"

*****end transmission******

I must be feeling better finally, I'm loopy...can ya tell?

The Way I See It #192

Many people lack a spiritual belief system and fill that void with obsessions about celebrities. The celebrities are raised to the rank of gods, and these earthly gods will always fail the expectations the masses have set for them. The cycle runs thusly: adoration turns to obsession, obsession turns to disappointment, and from disappointment it is a just a short emotional jump to contempt.

The media has been seriously on my nerves lately. I had seen this on a cup of Starbuck's tea a few weeks back at work...and it just popped back into my head this week.

Traveling:RevGal's Friday Five

The RevGalBlogPals Friday Five:

1. What is one place you make sure to take out-of-town guests when they visit? (you can be vague to preserve your anonymity if you like)
Well, that's usually when it's warmer I suppose. Probably the beach (ocean)...one of those living town type museums (vague) and the town surrounding it. Both locations have unique shops and potential for jazz/indie type music and culture. The ocean is just really relaxing and swell to look at. (Sunbathe? Um, no....burn!)

2. When visiting another city or town, do you try to cram as much in as possible, or take it slow and easy?
Well, it depends. If it's just me....I'll probably try to fit in more....cuz I can gauge my own interest. However, if there is one or two things that are solid and could use up lots of time...I'll stick with those.

3. When traveling, where are we most likely to find you: strolling through a museum, checking out the local shopping, or _________________?
I like museums...good ones. The Met in NYC is my favorite. I also like shopping...I should like it less! I actually really enjoy people watching.

4. Do you like organized tours and/or carefully planned itineraries, or would you rather strike out and just see what happens?
Organized tours can be okay. What I like is organized chaos! I like to research a place ahead of time and have lots of information on my person...eateries, sites, services, etc.....so that I can just start somewhere and wander...without getting lost and frustrated. I believe the word is Vacilando. Wandering with purpose.

5. After an extended trip, what do you find yourself craving most about home?
My own bed. And my kitty....but I don't know why because after I come home and he greets me affectionately....when I settle in he gives me a bite to say "don't leave me again bizzotch".

Do me a favor. Pray for my aunt please. She's a bit stressed....poor gal. Last night her dog got attacked by a pit bull and is mending wounds, her car died, she's been spending all her spare time trying to help my grandparents who aren't so hot....her entire Christmas tree is still up!

I've been up to my ears in my own illnesses and heavy loads of things to do and small fires to put out, I hope that I can clear things up soon so I can spend more time with my cool aunt.

How long is this stomach virus supposed to last? And when am I going to stop catching every infernal thing that's going around? No more airplanes for a while!

Weehaw.

Wow, I've got two requests for a report waiting for me! So be it.

Extravaganza was spectacular! My roomate situation worked out okay....mostly :)
One roomie happened to be from my region, which was convenient. I got to know other region people through her. I was the only one representin' from my synod though!

I met Mark , and had fun messing with him a little. I'm kinda amazed how easily I figured out who he was. Let me know how that photo with the other Mark came out!

I'm trying to think of where to start here.... It was the people and the time outside workshops that I valued most. I DID enjoy the workshops though, particularly one about involving kids in worship....it was more of a roundtable...and good one at that.

I decided on day one that I was going to aquire every pen that every college, seminary, mission trip company, etc. offered. I think it totaled 15 in the end...heh heh. (It amused me and others...we were lacking sleep and punchy).

One evening me and two gals....tired and sugared up decided to stay on the elevator...and ride it for an hour making a fun experience for each new load of people that stepped on. We started calling it Elevator Ministry. "Hello! Welcome! Come on in. How are you? Is there anything you want to talk about?".

I enjoyed Peder Eide and bought a couple CDs. I also picked up The Gospel According to Dr. Seuss, which I'm already halfway through, it's great!

I spoke much about vocation and calling and seminary. I'll be getting lots of mail soon.

I was very disappointed to find out that Lost and Found and Bishop Mark were scheduled for the Monday worship. If I knew I would've done my flight home differently. I managed to hear a couple songs by L and F....and a chunk of B. Mark.....but then I had to catch my shuttle. I hope there's a video up or a transcript.

I enjoyed a wonderful dinner with my new crowd on the last night, we were the only people in this wonderful spanish restaurant...I had this AMAZING salmon. We were good Lutherans and prayed before the meal, joining hands.....it was lovely.

I think that's the most you're going to get out of me tonight, I'll articulate better in a day or so.

Oh, and there were a lot of attractive young lutheran men....too many with wedding rings though ;)
