Sunday Drive
So I visited my parents' church today.
It was nice to see some people I knew there.
Can't say I'm impressed with the new LCMS hymnal...it's like a reissue of the 1941 and the one from the 80's combined. The pages are even an ivory color that makes them look old already.
Sounds like they've got an Herr Pastor. He will not permit laypeople to read the lessons...nor the AM to say any prayers. Oh, that bugged me. I have to confess I was rather nervous that he would refuse to commune me. He has their closed communion policy laid out quite extensively in the bulletin.
For some reason I think I'm still subconsiously really bothered by the LCMS. I guess I still feel "let down". All which makes the ELCA different....are the same things that I strongly embrace...role of women, ecumenism, progressiveness/reforming. It's the same sort of disappointment that i've felt at realizing that my parents and I see politics very differently.
Something to continue to work through, I suppose.
